Routine dental check-ups

Prevention is better than cure. Early detection and timely intervention of dental issues can save patients from severe oral health issues and infections. Dental exams are used to help find tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems early, when they're easier to treat. These check up’s are also used to help educate people on the best ways to care for their teeth and gums.

It’s commonly said that one should see a dentist twice a year. Planning regular dental check-ups can prevent the need for advanced and extensive dental treatments.

What happens during a dental check-up?

At each check-up, your dentist should:
  • Examine teeth, gums and mouth.
  • Ask about general health and any problems you've had with teeth, mouth or gums since last visit.
  • Ask about, and give you advice on, your diet, smoking and alcohol use, and teeth-cleaning habits.
  • Discuss a date for your next visit.
