Gum Depigmentation

Gum depigmentation, also known as gum bleaching is a cosmetic procedure to lighten and reduce the appearance of dark pigmentation or spots on the gums. This dark pigmentation is the caused by increased production of a skin-colouring pigment called melanin in the gums. Gum Darkening can create a contrast between the skin colour of the face and colour of gums which in turn, can make anyone ‘smile conscious’. Dark gums are intimidating and can bring embarrassment due to its unpleasing appearance. Dark gums can be unsightly and may falsely cause healthy gums to appear unhealthy. Laser gum treatment helps in removing the hyperpigmentation.

What happens during a laser gum depigmentation?

Laser gum depigmentation uses laser energy to peel off the gingival epithelium. Lasers cause minimal bleeding which improves the visibility at the surgical site. After laser depigmentation, chances of relapse are often very less.
